When to use certificates?
1. SSL
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a global standard security technology that creates an encrypted link between a web server and a web browser to ensure that all data transmitted remains private and secure. SSL can also be used for securing incoming and outgoing mail transfers.
Good reasons to use SSL:
* Gain competitive advantage by appearing more trusted and more legitimate
* Provide assurance to your customers that their data cannot be tampered with or forged
* Ensure that your customer's sensitive data is transmitted securely with strong encryption
2. VPN
A virtual private network (VPN) is a network that uses the internet, to provide remote offices or individual users with secure access to their organization's network. A VPN works by using the shared public infrastructure while maintaining privacy through security procedures and tunneling protocols. In effect, the protocols, by encrypting data at the sending end and decrypting it at the receiving end, send the data through a tunnel that cannot be "entered" by data that is not properly encrypted.
